The former San Diego Film Commission dissolved several years ago due to lack of funding. There is now an effort underway between the city and county to resurrect the functions. A plan with funding was included as part of the city's FY2016 Adopted Budget.
Step 1 - Recruit Program Manager
The Office of Special Events budget includes addition of a Film Commission Program Manager. This position was advertised and open for application from August 7th through August 20, 2015.
The Program Manager which is the City Hall position for the Film Office has been selected. Panel interviews were conducted after receiving many applications. The name of the PM will be released once they have agreed to terms.
Step 2 - Request for Ideas/Information
Funding support includes a Request for Ideas/Information (RFI) to obtain industry feedback on the necessary structure of the film office (staffing, goals, reporting requirements, etc.). A panel consisting of participating agencies and film industry stakeholders will be established to evaluate the submitted ideas/recommendations.
The RFI document came out on October 29th with responses due by December 15th. The response contact and process can seen here (go to "Bid Opportunities" posted on 10/29/2015).
Step 3 - Request for Proposal
The data gathered via the RFI will be used to develop a Request for Proposal (RFP) for an individual/entity/organization to administer the film office.
